Finish For Friday Four

This has been quite a productive week for me and I've managed to almost finish a fair number of projects but these three are totally complete and up for sharing. All have been made using the embellishing machine - the large book cover is a number of wool, acrylic threads on black felt and I've woven them as I go. The two small pieces are needle cases and they gave me the chance to use my kam snaps! Now I'm sure you are thinking that one is crazy patchwork and cannot have been made with an embellisher, but it is pieces of fancy fabrics, distressed and applied to felt with the embellishing machine, then machine embroidered and hand stitched.

Finish For Friday Three

Today I am posting about another finished project in my series ' Finish For Friday' - I'm a little late but at least it's finished!

This is another book cover and this is a piece of white viscose felt which I coloured using 'Inktense' blocks - I just soaked the piece of felt and then rubbed the blocks on the surface of the damp felt. This was followed by some gentle rubbing to mix and 'meld' the colours until I was happy.

Stage two was white organza punched into the surface using the embellishing machine; some fancy knitting yarns were also added this way in a random effect.

Final stage - hand stitches - cross stitch; couching over the knitting yarns and cross stitches in selected areas in various shades of blues and greys, with highlights of subtle greens and vivid cerise pink.

West Country Workshop

Monday past was a Sherborne branch meeting for West Country Embroiderers with Kate Paterson as tutor. Subject was making book covers but in a novel way - using brown parcel paper.

Wax crayons are used to cover the whole surface of the paper, it is crumpled and then rubbed with an ink pad. Once dry it can be sprayed with diluted brusho, silk paints or inks like 'moonshadow mists'

When the paper is dry, metallic wax or oil bars are rubbed over the raised surface of the crumpled paper. 

The plan was to adhere this paper to felt with bondaweb and to cut a frontal panel piece to be adorned as desired and then applied to the front of the book cover.  The metal shim is coloured with alcohol inks.  So my panel is complete and ready go onto my book cover.

Finish for Friday Two

A couple of posts ago I wrote about some felting wool which I'd found at a budget supermarket - such a reasonable price, 4 x 50 gram balls for £2.99!

Anyway, this is the first piece, hand stitched and made into a book cover.

Below is a photo of the other colours and now I have to decide what to make from the finished pieces.......so one unfinished project completed but three more now in the queue!!
